I would like to thank Crushed Caramel for recently nominating me for the Blogger Recognition Award. In following her blog, I gather that she lives in the UK. With me residing “across the pond” in the Palmetto State of South Carolina, our unlikely paths still crossed. (The beauty of blogging!)
The rules of the award:
1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
2. Write a post to show your award.
3. Give a brief story of how your blog started.
4. Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.
5. Select 15 or more bloggers for the award.
6. Let each nominee know that you’ve nominated them and leave a link to your post.
How My Blog Started…
I began taking very detailed notes two years ago when the fit, healthy me suddenly took an unexpected turn in the wrong direction. My brain flipped on a flashing neon sign inside my body as if it were wildly signaling a warning to me. I paid close attention and quickly took action; although, the journey itself has been very long and arduous.
I finally made it to a rheumatologist appointment where my curious case was eventually diagnosed as an “undifferentiated inflammatory arthritis” best classified as rheumatoid arthritis. After many months, we finally had a good handle on the medication I needed in order to combat the very intense pain, stiffness, and swelling in my joints. The alternate universe I was living in was quickly transitioning back into my normal life. I was so thrilled!
Several months later in March 2018, the inevitable happened. My first RA flare reared its ugly head. After many sleepless nights, in order to try and take my mind away from the unbearable repeat of pain, I created a blog and began writing about my mysterious journey. This quickly proved to be very empowering!
At the time, I didn’t even know what a blog was but something inside of me was screaming to get out! Many bloggers will understand this but some people never will, and that’s okay. My personal blog, My Alternate Universe, was “born”. (This post makes #24 and I promise, it’s not all gloom and doom.)
This led me to a unique opportunity to also write for Lexington Medical Center’s (LMC) Every Woman Blog which highlights several women in my local community. Although I’m a newbie, I enjoy blogging for them twice a month. (In a nutshell, I have two blogs.) I encourage you to visit this community blog and search for my name (Marianna Boyce). Post #3 will be published around 9-16-18.
If you read my very first post with LMC, it comes complete with an introductory video. It’s aptly named, “Free Therapy Anyone?” My blog with them varies in content, but I highlight the lighter side of living with daily chronic pain. Sometimes they will be nothing about chronic pain at all. Again…the beauty of blogging!
Two Pieces of Advice for New Bloggers…
- Ignore the naysayers. Some people may not understand why you want to share your personal thoughts with the world. Stop trying to explain it to them. Don’t be mad or upset, just keep writing and sharing.
- Read, like, and follow other bloggers. An occasional encouraging comment goes a long way! It means a lot to have support.
The bloggers I select for the award are as follows:
I know this only looks like seven nominations, but within the “Every Woman” website, there are twelve other bloggers that I also support. I’m sure they would love for you to read their posts as well.
Of course, Crushed Caramel, is amazing and I see nothing in the rules stating I cannot re-nominate her so consider it done! Thank you for being so supportive. I always look forward to reading the posts of those that I already follow. I will make a point to search for new blogs to follow as well. To follow Crushed Caramel’s story, visit her website below.
With Hurricane Florence bearing down on the east coast and planning to meander around North and South Carolina, and even Georgia for several days, maybe I can catch up on reading and writing…as long as I have power to charge my electronics. It’s been a bit crazy since she changed her course. For others also in her path…stay safe and God bless us all.
I am definitely taking this storm seriously, but this was too cute not to share.
“…the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.” Nahum 1:3 KJV (always)
